THE IMPACT OF PATRIARCHY ON FEMALE QUALITY OF LIFE IN TRIBAL AREAS
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the impacts of patriarchy on female quality of life in four villages of Kurram agency. The nature of the study was quantitative and questionnaire was used as tool of date of data collection for collecting information from the sample size of 279 respondents. The results report a strong effect of patriarchy on the quality of life of women living in Kurram Agency. Females were totally dependent on males. They were not allowed to sit in front of males, to eat meals with males, express their opinion and not leave the four wall of the house except emergency. The association test results show that quality of life is significantly associated with, the extent that females are not allowed to sit in front of male (P=0.060), express their opinion (P=0.020), stay at home (P=0.001), and considered as bodies to produce and nurture children (P=0.018). The study recommends that female quality of life could be improved through provision of constitutional rights to FATA, providing basic facilities to the people, discouraging all patriarchal norms and practices that degrade women and avoiding misinterpretation of religion for the benefits man.
